How is Aotearoa scoring?

Live, anonymous outcomes from people who have completed their mock-test series and chosen to contribute. Each respondent counts once: the outcome of one series of up to six attempts. Demographics with fewer than 15 responses are reported by count only — not by score — so individuals can't be inferred from a tiny sample.

By outcome

How many attempts did it take?

Each respondent has exactly one outcome — they either passed on one of their six attempts, or they failed all six. This is a mock test only; nothing on this site triggers any real-world process. In the official test, a sixth-attempt failure would be referred back to the Department of Internal Affairs, which could either reject the citizenship application or refer it directly to the Minister of Internal Affairs.

By birthplace

Where you were born

Three groupings: born in New Zealand to New Zealand-born parents, born in New Zealand to parents born overseas, or born overseas. Each tile shows the share of respondents in that grouping who passed within six attempts.

By voting intention

If a general election were held tomorrow…

The party respondents say they would most likely give their party vote to.

By region

Where in Aotearoa you live

The 16 regional council areas plus the Chatham Islands Territory and respondents living overseas.

How these numbers are produced Every result on this page comes from people who completed a series on this site and clicked "Submit anonymous result". A series is one to six attempts ending in either a pass or a final sixth-attempt fail. The outcome label "FAIL_REFERRED" is only a category tag for that final-fail grouping — no actual referral to any agency takes place. Each respondent contributes one outcome. No personal information is recorded — only the score, the time taken, the attempt number, the outcome, and three demographic answers (birthplace, voting intention, region). The 15-response threshold suppresses small groupings so individuals cannot be inferred from a tiny sample. The dataset is not weighted to reflect the New Zealand population, and is not a representative survey. It is a self-selecting opt-in dataset.
